    The newly developed WINGit Voyager Kite is the world's first series kite for propulsion of ships. The shape of the kite has been uncompromisingly optimized for use as a towing kite. The use of the most modern materials, the optimal tuning of the components and the esay handling make the WINGit Voyager the ideal kite for use with our Kite Control Systems.

    The WingCommander is the world's most compact drive system for boats.

    Energy-saving propulsion technology

    WingCommander's propulsion technology has been optimized for minimal energy consumption. Therefore, WingCommander takes up only 200W power input.

    Line lengths of up to 150m

    Our line concept, especially designed and optimized for yacht use, allows the kite to be started even at low winds and makes it work efficiently at greater heights of up to 150m with stronger winds.

    Sail power x 10:

    Performance is enormously increased by the operating height of up to 150m and the possibility of performing active flight figures. Thus, the kite can achieve a performance up to ten times higher than that of a conventional sail of similar size.

    Easy installation inboard and outboard:

    The installation of the WingCommanders takes place by simply screwing it to the deck.

    Under certain conditions, an integration into the boat structure is possible.

    Core of WingCommander RC. Here all sensor data are being processed, transformed into steering commands and broadcast to the radio module of the CPU-unit.

    Simple and intuitive steering

    The kite is manually steered by a joystick. Clearly arranged operating controls allow intuitive handling.

    Autopilot

    Kite Sensor:

    Attached to the kite. Identifies the kite's exact position and flight attitude and broadcasts data to the controller.

    Line-Sensor:

    Identifies the kite's position in relation to the boat's course.

    The autopilot has three components: a line sensor, a kite sensor and an extension for the controller.

    For longer distances, the autopilot will take over control that can also be executed manually. It will also fly pre-defined flight figures that can also be manually optimized by you.

    Various flight modes:

    The autopilot has two different flight modes.

    Lying Eight: to generate the maximum power.

    Zenith: Sets the screen automatically to the zenith of the boat and keeps it there.

    Intuitive handling: 

    The autopilot can be intuitively activated, operated and optimized on several parameters.

    Rigging mast

    It raises the attachementpoint of the kite lines over reeling level and makes force dissipation to the boat much easier

    Unrigged Mast

    In special cases this mast can be used without rigging lines. This gives you a free fore deck. Therfor we have to check and maybe reenforce the structure of the boat.

    WingCommander RC System Components

    1. Winch Unit: Kite-steering mechanism

    2. Controller: Core of WingCommander RC. Here all sensor data are being processed, transformed into steering commands and broadcast to the radio module of the CPU-unit.

    3.Wireless Connection: High performance wireless connection between RC, winch and kite sensor.

    4. CPU-Unit: Here all sensor data and steering signals are being bundled and processed.

    5. Radio modul of the CPU-Unit

    6. Motor Controller: From here the motors of the winch unit are being addressed.

    7. Kite Sensor: Attached to the kite. Identifies the kite's exact position and flight attitude and broadcasts data to the controller.

    8. Line-Sensor: Identifies the kite's position in relation to the boat's course.

    9. Batteries: A 24-V- battery bank with min 100Ah provides energy for winch-unit operation.

    10. Kitemast: .Raises lines' suspension point above railing height.

    11. Kitelines: Connect Kite and WingCommander and transmit trailing loads.

    High Tech for High Performance:

    The flight lines connects WingCommander RC and Kite. The diameter of the lines has a high impact on the performance of the Kite Propulsion System. That is why we use only high quality  lines made in germany.

    Depending on the intended purpose, the lines have a break load of  300 - 1300 kgf.

     

    Performance of a  Kite Sail

    Most people are asking us: How fast is a boat with the kite and which course can I sail.Polardiagram2

    Performance:

    There is no universal answer for this question. The performance depends on many different factors like lenght, weight and shape of the hull, as well as the kite used.


    Comparison Kite - Sail

    The chart shows the differences between the propulsion of a conventional sail in comparison with a kite sail.

    In this case we compare the kite sail with a four times larger conventional sail.

     Sail: Main sail: 40m² 
     Fore sail: 15m²
     Spinnaker: 70m²
     Sum: 125m²
     Kite:  Kite size: 15m²
     Sum: 15m²

    For the kite, we differ two different flight altitudes.

    10m:  Line lenght 30m

    50m: Line lenght 80-140m , 30° elevation (Standard Autopilot)

    Result:

    → Down wind the kite offers an outstanding performance.

    → Upwind you have to use larger kites because the effect of activ movement of the kite reduces close to the edge of the wind window.

    Which course can I sail?

    Points of sail:

    PolardiagramKurseThe answer for this question is the same as for the performance. There is no universal answer. More than for the performance, the shape of the hull influence the possible course.

    Similar to the use of conventional sails, the size and shape of keel and rudder influences the upwind performance.

    The chart shows the approximate performance of the different kind of boats.

     

     

    Result:

    → Sailboat hull with large centerboard and rudder - up to 50° against the wind.

    → Motor boat with well marked keel and rudder - up to 90° against the wind.

    → Motor boat with planig hull and outboard engine - up to 130° against the wind.
